Public mobility continues to rise in public spaces as of May 2022. According to data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the rise in mobility is apparent in grocery shops and retail and recreation areas.

“Visitations to those areas showed a significant increase compared to the increase in the previous months,” said Margo Yuwono, BPS Chief, said during a press conference on Thursday, June 2, 2022.

Margo said public mobility in retail and recreation areas showed a 19.63% increase compared to the early period of the COVID-19 pandemic or from January 3 to February 6 of 2020. This is a much higher increase when compared to the rise recorded in April of 8.93%.

Furthermore, public mobility in grocery shops rose by 40.89% when compared to the same early pandemic period, which was also a significant increase compared to the rise in April of 33.90%.

Meanwhile, public mobility in parks skyrocketed by 81.44% under the same comparison and is another significant increase compared to the rise in April of 31.30%.

Margo said the increased mobility was likely related to the momentum of the Eid al-Fitr Islamic holiday, during which the government relaxed a number of health protocols in regards to COVID-19.
