The Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (GAIKINDO) reported positive growth in vehicle exports through the first half of 2025.

GAIKINDO Chairman Yohannes Nangoi stated that vehicle exports from January to June 2025 reached 233,648 units.

“The performance of completely built-up (CBU) vehicle exports from Indonesia continues to record positive growth in 2025, increasing by 7 percent compared to last year,” Yohannes said during the opening of the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) 2025 in Tangerang, Banten, on Thursday, July 24.

According to GAIKINDO data, this performance reflects completely built-up (CBU) or fully assembled vehicle exports. In the same period in 2024, exports stood at 218,459 units.

“Exports now reach more than 90 countries. Exports of completely knocked-down (CKD) vehicles and components have also seen significant growth,” he added.

Domestic Sales Remain Weak

Meanwhile, in terms of sales, GAIKINDO recorded retail car sales in June 2025 at 61,647 units, a slight increase of 0.5 percent from 61,307 units in May 2025. Although monthly sales showed a small rise, they were still lower than June 2024’s 70,290 units.

For the first half of 2025, car sales totaled 390,467 units, representing a 9.7 percent decline compared to the same period last year, which reached 432,453 units.

The automotive exhibition is expected to boost national car sales.

Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, speaking at the exhibition’s opening, expressed hope that the auto show would restore consumer purchasing interest and act as a strategic catalyst between the government, industry players, and international partners in strengthening Indonesia’s position as a production hub and export base in the ever-growing global market.

GAIKINDO also considers the auto show as part of efforts to support the government in achieving its net zero emissions target, by showcasing electrified vehicles, environmentally friendly cars, and the development of new fuel technologies.
