The upcoming Indonesia International Sustainability Forum (ISF) 2024 is set to be a landmark event for Indonesia’s renewable energy sector, particularly in its plan to export green electricity to Singapore. The focus is on electricity generated from renewable energy sources, specifically solar power.

Rachmat Kaimuddin, Deputy for Infrastructure and Transportation Coordination at the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime and Investment Affairs, announced that ISF 2024 will feature 10 agreements, including a major one involving the export of green electricity to Singapore.

“One of the key agreements is the conditional licensing for electricity transfer to Singapore, potentially worth billions of dollars,” Kaimuddin stated during a press conference in Jakarta on August 29.

Several Indonesian companies have already received conditional approval to supply electricity to Singapore. The next step involves obtaining a conditional license from the Singaporean government. The green electricity export from Indonesia to Singapore is targeted to commence by 2027, with plans currently underway for the development of necessary infrastructure, including cable installations and factory locations.

Kaimuddin emphasized that the project must utilize solar modules, panels, and batteries produced in Indonesia, aiming to boost the local renewable energy supply chain and manufacturing industries.

“We hope this initiative will also drive the growth of the renewable energy manufacturing sector in Indonesia,” he added.

The ISF 2024 is set to be the second-largest climate-related event in the Asia-Pacific region, following COP 29 in Azerbaijan. Scheduled for September 5-6 in Jakarta, the event has already registered over 8,000 participants, including global leaders, thematic sessions, and exhibitions.

The forum aims to align economic growth with the development of green industries in Indonesia through initiatives such as green electricity development, decarbonization, and environmental sustainability. Among the key topics to be discussed are high-level plenaries, 15 thematic sessions, and seven roundtable events covering various aspects of sustainability.
