IKN 50 MW Solar Power Plant Officially Operational
28 Jan 2025
PLN Nusantara Power has completed the construction of the 50-megawatt Solar Power Plant (PLTS) in the Nusantara Capital City (IKN). The project was inaugurated by President Prabowo Subianto alongside 36 other electricity sector projects.
PT PLN (Persero) hopes this solar power plant will strengthen national energy security, ensure equitable electricity distribution, and support industrial sectors, particularly in Kalimantan.
PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo also emphasized the company’s commitment to supporting the government’s vision of achieving energy independence through electricity infrastructure focused on new and renewable energy (NRE).
“Energy transition is not only aimed at reducing emissions but also at balancing growth and environmental sustainability," said Darmawan in a written statement on Sunday (January 26).
PLN Nusantara Power President Director, Ruly Firmansyah, stated that the IKN Solar Power Plant project aims to reduce carbon emissions and save energy costs in the future.
“(It also aims to) create local job opportunities while supporting Indonesia’s vision of energy self-sufficiency,” he added.
Previously, Darmawan Prasodjo mentioned that the IKN Solar Power Plant would begin its commissioning process (operational testing) on December 22, 2024. All electricity supply in IKN will eventually come from renewable energy power plants.
The IKN Solar Power Plant was built by PLN’s subsidiary, PLN Nusantara Power, in collaboration with Singapore-based company Sembcorp. This solar power plant can generate 92.8 million kilowatt-hours of green energy per year and reduce 44,000 tons of CO2 emissions annually.
