26 Mar 2025

Indonesia has officially joined the New Development Bank (NDB), a multilateral financial institution established by BRICS nations, marking a strategic move to accelerate national development and foster international partnerships.
President Prabowo Subianto announced this decision during a meeting with NDB President Dilma Rousseff at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on March 25, 2025.
He emphasized that joining NDB aligns with Indonesia’s long-term economic and infrastructure goals, opening opportunities for collaboration in key sectors such as renewable energy, digital transformation, and sustainable infrastructure.
NDB President Dilma Rousseff welcomed Indonesia’s inclusion, emphasizing its strategic role in the region and alignment with NDB’s vision for sustainable development. She reiterated the bank’s respect for national sovereignty, allowing members to determine their own priorities while benefiting from the bank’s resources.
Rousseff also commended Indonesia’s economic resilience and its advancements in biofuel utilization, particularly the successful implementation of the B40 biodiesel program.
The membership will allow Indonesia to secure funding from NDB for major infrastructure and sustainability projects. Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani Indrawati highlighted Indonesia’s focus on enhancing infrastructure and advancing green energy through this partnership, with key initiatives including waste-to-energy conversion, smart city development, and transportation improvements.
Investment Minister Rosan Roeslani, who was also present in the meeting, added that discussions with NDB include exploring financing models that align with Indonesia’s development priorities, reinforcing the country’s commitment to infrastructure expansion and sustainability. Beyond financing, Indonesia’s membership in NDB is also expected to facilitate knowledge exchange and technical expertise.
