Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that bilateral economic and trade relations between Indonesia and Russia grew by 17% during the first nine months of 2025. He said Indonesia–Russia economic ties had shown significant development throughout the year, in line with strengthening cooperation ahead of the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations.
“Our economic and trade relations also developed during the first nine months of this year. Our trade value increased by 17%,” Putin said during a meeting with President Prabowo Subianto at the Kremlin Palace in Moscow, Russia, on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, as quoted from the Presidential Secretariat’s YouTube livestream.
Putin noted that both countries remained committed to strengthening cooperation across various sectors, including nuclear energy. He also said the Russian and Indonesian governments were discussing cooperation with the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) related to a potential free trade agreement (FTA).
“There are many prospects in the energy sector, including nuclear energy. We are very pleased that Indonesia has become a full member of BRICS, and we are discussing a free trade agreement with the Eurasian Economic Union,” he said.
Putin expressed his pleasure in welcoming President Prabowo and the Indonesian delegation to Russia.
“Your Excellency Mr. President and esteemed colleagues, we are very happy to see you all here today,” Putin said.
Putin also appreciated President Prabowo’s participation in the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) 2025 in June. President Prabowo’s state visit to Russia was intended to express gratitude for the strong relations between the two countries.
In his remarks, President Prabowo thanked President Putin for receiving him despite his tight schedule.
“Your Excellency President Putin and leaders of the Russian government, thank you for receiving me. I understand that President Putin has a very busy agenda, so I am grateful to be welcomed on such short notice,” President Prabowo said.
During the meeting, President Prabowo was accompanied by Foreign Minister Sugiono and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.
