Indonesian Communications Minister Meets with U.S. Ambassador to Discuss Submarine Cable and Satellite Investment

Indonesia's Minister of Communication and Informatics, Budi Arie Setiadi, held a meeting with the U.S. Ambassador to Indonesia, Kamala Shirin Lakhdhir, at the ministry’s office in Jakarta on Thursday, September 26. The discussion centered on enhancing technological cooperation between Indonesia and the United States.

 

Ambassador Kamala reiterated the U.S.'s commitment to supporting Indonesia in boosting digital sector investments. Key topics included investments in data centers, submarine cables, satellites, and other telecommunications infrastructure.

 

The meeting also highlighted the importance of investment in human resource development, focusing on equipping Indonesia’s workforce with the necessary skills for the expanding digital economy.

 

“I hope today's meeting can be followed up with concrete actions. I am ready to hold further discussions with the ambassador or U.S. companies to enhance investment in the digital sector,” Minister Budi Arie stated during a press release on Thursday, September 25.

 

Budi emphasized the significance of this partnership, as Indonesia seeks to expand both the reach and quality of its internet services. He also noted that Indonesia's digital economy is projected to reach a value of USD 360 billion by 2030, potentially growing to USD 366 billion with the optimal use of artificial intelligence (AI) technology.

 

Minister Budi Arie was accompanied by key ministry officials, including Special Staff Dedy Permadi, Director General of Informatics Applications Hokky Situngkir, and Head of the International Institutional Center, Ichwan Nasution.
