Minister of Industry (Menperin) Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita stated that the implementation of the IDR 5 million per unit incentive for electric motorcycle purchases is still awaiting the issuance of a Minister of Finance Regulation (PMK). Agus said that the Ministry of Industry, as the technical ministry, has prepared the mechanism for providing the incentive. However, he noted that the implementation of the incentive can only proceed after the Ministry of Finance (Kemenkeu) issues the PMK as the foundation for executing the program.

"The Ministry of Industry, as the technical ministry, is ready. We are just waiting for the PMK. Once the PMK is completed, then we will adjust," Agus said after attending the Independence Proclamation Ceremony at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Monday 17 August 2026.

The Golkar Party politician stated that determining the brands and models of electric motorcycles eligible for the incentive is a joint agreement involving the Ministry of Industry, the Ministry of Finance, and the Daya Anagata Nusantara Investment Management Agency (Danantara). "Together, there is a team between us (the Ministry of Industry), Danantara, and the Minister of Finance as well," said Agus.

Minister of Finance (Menkeu) Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa previously mentioned that the government will provide a subsidy for the purchase of electric motorcycles of around IDR 5 million per unit. This subsidy is targeted for a first batch of 6 million units this year. The figure was his proposal, meaning it requires further coordination with the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto and the Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang.

"I am proposing it for new ones first. That is six million motorcycle sales. But not all at once. We are looking at it in stages, for the new ones. We are trying to create the program," Purbaya said during a media briefing at the Financial Education and Training Agency (BPPK) office in South Jakarta on Friday 24 April 2026.

The State Treasurer stated he had discussed the matter with Airlangga. Afterward, it will be discussed with the Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang, before finally being reported to President Prabowo Subianto.
